Did. Stefanik did not ask “is it against your policies to criticize Israel or any of its actions”? It was a simple “is it against your policy to promote genocide of Jews”? That’s an easy answer. Follow up questions could have gotten into whether there actually have been such calls in the protest rhetoric.

And I’m ambivalent or maybe even slightly opposed to them being fired after hearing some opinions (including from a Harvard prof who very definitely sees a problem at Harvard), as I think sacrificial lambs are pointless, and we can forgive people when they walk back and clarify stupid statements. But saying a hypothetical statement promoting genocide needs context is not both siding the conflict. It’s one siding bigotry (which I’m not saying is the U presidents’ intent), because you and I both know that such a question about re-enslaving black people would not be answered that way. No U official in this country would say that needs context, and any who did would be fired on the spot without any controversy.
