I don’t agree that’s even a consensus in the US, and I think that fact is

Further imperiling Biden’s chances. I think the US is pretty universally critical of Palestinian casualties. But with the benefit of having walked in Israel’s shoes to a degree 22 yrs ago. I also disagree - if the US had to respond in an area the size and density of Gaza, it still certainly would have, and the casualties would have looked so much worse.

That’s the point SC was quoting - some estimates of civilian to militant casualties in Gaza are far better than those achieved by the U.S. Based on unofficial numbers because Hamas doesn’t provide the stats, but that tends to be ignored.

Many in Israel itself are extremely critical of the govt response, including in the link I provided. I think you have to be smoking something to see that as the only perspective, even in the US and Israel.
