billion Muslims in the world have a different perspective, but in the US the message seems to be “unequivocally support Israel or be canceled and branded an anti-Semite who supports extermination of the Jews.”

That’s coming from strong majorities in both political parties and even had Democrats censuring their own reps for siding with the Palestinians. Or in the case of the lady from Washington, being attacked for simply asking for balance.

Regarding 9-11, if we had decided to bomb Kabul into a parking lot in response to 9-11, I think there would have been plenty of pushback, and it would have been appropriate. The question isn’t whether the 10-7 attacks were brutal and horrible, it’s “does it warrant wholesale destruction of two cities full of people, and the killing of 20,000 or so civilians who are mostly women and children, the injury of 10’s of thousands more, and complete annihilation of people’s homes,” which is exactly what is happening in Gaza and Khan Younis. And anyone in this country who asks that question seems to be getting branded as a pro genocide anti-Semite for some odd reason.

I’d also note that the Israeli far right has their own version of “from the river to the sea” and seems equally disinterested in a balanced solution that works for the 10 million or so affected people as Hamas. So all those civilians are just caught between two extreme factions and having their lives destroyed….and to what end?

If the only acceptable solution is ethnic cleansing one way or the other, everyone loses.
