I do not believe Lebanon's "solution" (from its National

Pact in 1943) is the way to go. By law, the President MUST be a Maronite Catholic, the Prime Minister a Sunni Muslim, and the Speaker of Parliament a Shiite Muslim. I believe that representation in Parliament must be allocated on the basis of 6 Christian seats for every 5 Muslim seats, but I defer to your greater knowledge on the subject.

Instead of removing religion from government it enshrined it. And yes, in retrospect, that seems to be a recipe for continuing sectarian discord and violence

But, no, the one state I understand the more liberal voices, both Jewish and Muslim, are proposing for Israel is not like that at all. Whether the ultimate result might not tend in the same direction I don't know, but I don't think it has to.

(This its all pie-in-the-sky anyway, because support for this is definitely a minority on both the Jewish and Palestinian side.)
