You cheapen the validity of your arguments with the "ponzi scheme" comment.

A pay-as-you-go system isn't a "ponzi scheme" just because there is a large generation retiring at one moment in time. Not even close.

On the private investment side its not an investment, a retirement plan, or a wealth-building vehicle and shouldnt be. Really Its unemployment insurance for seniors. It works and has since the 30's -- probably could use a few tweaks though.
