A fair point, and good news I would think. But then why aren't we


better off wrt SS? If 35-38% more are making it to 65 and thus paying longer (and presumably at higher amounts due to higher wages later in life), yet the amount of time lived past 65 is only roughly 26% more (20% for men, 33% for women), why is SS not in better shape now?

I realize that's simplistic analysis and ignores important aspects like # of workers vs. # of retirees changes, but on the simplistic level, things should be better.

Again, I have to wonder, where is all that money going (12.4% of income is a lot!) if not retirement payouts? And are we using SS too heavily to fund programs we should be funding elsewise? e.g. SSDI, etc. I'll even question the ROI of those funds going in, but I'll ignore that for now since I know the lefties' heads start exploding if there is even the slightest hint of privatization.
