Let's say we could efficiently set up a system whereby one could purchase


low risk investments like S&P index funds and deposit the shares into a lockbox-type account at a participating brokerage. I'm nearly guaranteed to get more money at retirement (frankly given that I'm 30 if the S&P doesn't significantly outperform SS by the time I retire, the country has probably collapsed, so I'm still no worse off with the index fund).

The only thing that can't happen is me supporting the ponzi scheme for current retirees. Basically, we're held hostage to the monster we've created. Decisions made under duress are rarely good ones...
