Not quite sure I see how that would happen.

If Joe were chosen at random for a 4 year term after passing a civics test, nobody would be accusing him of hiding anything about his family to win election. Because he would not have run a campaign that could be guilty of anything.

And no family would have any influence to sell. There’d be no such thing as career politicians. Just ordinary citizens taking a several year break from their private lives to serve the public interest, because they volunteered for the lottery and passed minimum standards.
