The general belief on the right is that…

…the federal government should insert itself as infrequently as possible. Why should a few hundred folks in DC decide policy for 340 million Americans spread throughout 50 states? Wouldn’t it be more reflective of the people’s will to decide things more locally when possible? My guess is that 90%+ of DC Reps are fine with contraception, but they don’t want DC dictating policy if they can avoid it, so they vote against bills doing exactly that.
