I think this is a pretty reasonable discussion. And I do happen

to know a transgendered person. A guy I worked with pretty closely for a number of years left the company about a year ago and shortly thereafter "came out" about his transition. He now considers himself female, refers to herself as a woman, goes by a feminine name, but still has male equipment and is attracted exclusively to women. Before I knew anything about this, and he was just another guy, he would constantly flirt with and hit on women. After his transition, he's still attracted to women. I think this is pretty common among male to female transgenders. As I posted below, I have a hard time wrapping my head around it all having known him for so many years as just another guy, but if it makes him happy and that's who he feels he is, I'm perfectly happy for him, wish him no ill will at all, and would hate for him to be put in a situation where he was unnecessarily made to feel uncomfortable because of who he is.

That being said, if instead of being a 50 year old man, he was a 13 year old boy when he decided to transition to a girl (while still having boy parts and still being attracted to girls), I think it would be totally unacceptable to expect other 13 year old girls to be comfortable showering or changing clothes next to him. He is a biological male that is sexually attracted to girls. He has NO business being in a high school or middle school locker room or shower while other girls are changing or showering. I'm sorry if that would make him feel uncomfortable, but at some point you have to also consider the rights of others when you make accommodations for a very small minority.
