The great mystery is why, as racism fades (and I think it's fading) poor whites and poor blacks still voice their populist urges (on the rare occasions, such as this year, when the elites are not successful in tamping down populism) separately rather than together.

(A second great mystery to me is why Bernie fared so abjectly, horribly poorly among African-American primary voters in the South, and not all that much better among African American voters in the New York primary)
