Very, very poor. My parents had no car. I basically hitched

hiked everywhere after turning 12 or so.

I put running water and an indoor toilet in my parents' home when I turned 20.

Everything came hard. Started college at 32, etc. First in my family. Got my first professional license at 45. I got lucky along the way. Married a good woman who worked even harder than I to make a good home. After losing her to cancer, I got a second chance to marry my former 17 year old sweetheart, and life could not be more blessed.

Turned out ok. Yes, I'm a strong advocate for education and opportunity.
