I do a fair amount of business with immigrants from India. They would

scoff at the thought that there is very little upward mobility in this country. One particular gentleman in his 60's came here about 35 years ago. He said in India he was a farmer...nothing wrong with being a farmer...but he said his children would have been farmers and would have married someone from a 3 mile radius...and their children would be farmers. He came here with almost nothing.
One son is a stock analyst on Wall St...his daughter is a Pharmacist, another son is studying to be a Neurologist. He stated that there are not too many places in the world where that could have happened. FWIW.
