I believe Tuckahoe was the english version of an Native American word for a

wetland plant that was edible. The plant would be picked, dried, and made into some sort of bland edible paste...sort of East Coast version of Hawaiian Poi.
It was of course also the name of Jefferson's childhood home in eastern Goochland County.
