I'm not suggesting bernie is a marxist. The opinion piece was at an

extreme.

The mobility question is complex. IMO, there is a lot of opportunity to move up the education/wealth scale in this country (and far more so than being able to play basketball like lebron IMO -- which required freakish genetic gifts in addition to hard work) -- but obviously most people don't. Is it the system or people or a combination of both and/or many other things.

You have posted that you came from a relatively poor background right. I think shen and tpke have also. I didn't, but my parents did. I am guessing many others on this board have too. Everyone here was able to take advantage of the opportunities available in this country to do pretty well and our kids will now have even more opportunities. My guess is most of us had family units that encouraged education and work and that was a key.
