Question for you, Joey....
Who do you see making fun of people for being poor or not having a prestigious college degree (aside from the light hearted digs at hokies here which I think we all get is in good fun)? And Honestly who anywhere ridicules Sanders supporters other than poking fun at trustafarian Bernie Bros (certainly not the demographic you're citing)?
I dont see it. Certainly not from any us liberals (some of us who have sacrificed years of our lives to workin public service to help working class people).
When people ridicule Trump supporters (many of whom are NOT poor or working class people, although being poorly educated or intellectually incurious does seem to be a correllary to supporting him) it's usually for the ignorant, often racist, and incredibly mean spirited things THEY say .... Often about the very poor, uneducated working class people you're so vigorously defending. Only it's the non-white ones who live in places like South Chicago, Newark, or East LA. Maybe some of us get pissed off hearing these people described like theyre parasitic insects out for "free stuff" and "welfare checks" or that Mexican Americans are a race of rapists and murderers and we need to build a wall to keep them out? Or How about treating gay people like they're perverts with some kind of disease?
I happen to know a lot of these salt of the earth small town VA types youre describing since I grew up in small town Virginia. Most are great people, but a lot have become bitter, ugly, racists who rant all day in Facebook about their guns and how much they hate Obama, Hispanics, transgendered or gay people, etc. It's the latter who seem to be the Vocal Trump supporters, anecdotally speaking (as well as many others). You want to talk about off putting, inhuman people? There you go.
Thats not to say that everyone who is into Trump is a racist asshole (couldnt be the case), but I do find it frustrating to see an ugly charlatan like him getting so much traction. And sorry but I do think the core of his appeal is what is known as "ugly America" not your hard working construction worker or single mom. I don't see how being disgusted at that sort of message or behavior is "class based" unless by class you just mean human decency.
And you seem to be missing that literally the entire non-white, non-rural working class seems to be fine with Hillary Clinton and the current POTUS too. It's not some kind of working class revolution being stamped out by the man ..... and I dont think Trump is even a class-based phenomenon (subject to the caveat above). IMHO, my candidate DOES support the working and middle classes and is in the best position to do so. Thats a major reason why I,m voting for her despite not liking her much, and id bet you'll find much of her support is in the same boat.
