I'm sure you haven't missed the constant class-based digs
It's easy to tell what they assume the people they're mocking look like, how much money they make, where they live, and what college they didn't go to.
I'm just saying that when I see that stuff, it riles me because I know who they're talking about. And that it's culturally OK to do it.
A few weeks ago I went to visit a neighbor, a widow in her 70's. She still works full-time, as she has her whole life, and can't be making much more than minimum wage. She has a high school education, if that. She has a heart of gold and is the first person to bring food when someone is sick or there is a death in the family. She was watching TV and there was an old world globe on her kitchen table. When I asked her what she was doing with the globe she said she was trying to find Brussels on it, because she didn't know how far away it was. I realized she was watching news about the terrorist attack. So she was scared and didn't know where Brussels is. I would like to punch anyone who mocked her for that.
Just a little while ago a friend came over to pick up feed. He works a full-time construction job in North Carolina, and raises hogs and chickens full-time on the side. He drives a beat up old truck that is only running because he knows how to work on it. He lives with his wife and 5 young kids down a nearly impassible dirt road in a house that he's fixing up one room at a time (in his spare time). I know that not only is he poor now, but he grew up poor. I can tell that by looking at his teeth. It's easy to spot those of us who didn't have enough money to go to dentists when we were growing up. He's a great guy and a good father. Always smiling. If someone ridiculed him for being a poor uneducated bumpkin and he wanted to whip their ass for it, it wouldn't bother me.
A few days ago I went to pick up some chicks from a guy who raises them. He lives in a small pre-fab house down a dirt road. He's probably about 30 years old, has a beer belly and is missing his front teeth. He has a couple of coon hounds tied up in his front yard and raises pure-bred chickens in coops in his yard and in his basement. He's a good hard-working young man as far as I know. Hilarious, right?
I could go on and on. So yeah it pisses me off to see people who have no idea what life is like outside of their sheltered upper-middle class world insult people like that.
And I don't have to explain Keith Judd. I've never heard of him. It's not my responsibility to explain him.
