Funny, but the people who talk about "real America" being all-white, small
towns and rural areas are the ones who are disconnected from the pulse of the nation if anyone is. Most Americans (working class, poor, rich, and middle class alike; white, black, Hispanic, Asian; Christian, Jewish, Muslim, atheist; etc.) live in metropolitan areas. I'm talking upwards of 80% of the country's population.
So what is "real America"? I would say all of it, but if we're going to pit areas against one another I'd say areas like NOVA are a lot more representative the country at large than anywhere downstate. And that's not because we're all "arrogant elitist pricks" who thumb our noses at everyone as inferior -- it's that we actually look like America, the complete picture.
Downvote away -- it's true.
