And while it was considered a win for women's rights back then, it was fairly non-controversial from a religious standpoint.

At the same time, right wing religious zealots who were also ardent segregationists, were looking for a galvanizing issue besides civil rights for black people. They seized on gay rights, and then abortion. Abortion biggest of all. They built an entire political movement around abortion, with the ultimate objective being political power. Now they think they've found their answer with Trump and they intend to use that power to achieve their ultimate aim of empowering the wealthy, legislating morality, favored religious institutions tapping into that sweet federal money.

They're not wrong. Trump delivered them the Supreme Court. A court that is treading heavily in favor of the powerful now as I noted above. Jerry Falwell was flexing his muscle when I was at UVA. I always thought the guy was complete slime. Turns out he was just the tip of the iceberg.
