I almost wish politicians would stay out of it
We physicians often know what works/doesn't work, what patients are willing to do or not do without stamping so many mandates and restrictions on us that generate so many more costs to things. A single doctor practice shouldn't have to have 20+ staff just to deal with paperwork/insurance issues, EHR, meaningful use requirements. Wish they would just say here is the money to care for your population, let doctors use that money appropriately how WE see fit to care for them, eliminate useless requirements that aren't improving patient's health. I would say though doctors would need to better police each other and oversight since there are unscrupulous doctors out there that will defraud if you just give them money, but I think we could do it if we had the right systems in place. I'd love to just get rid of these damn insurance companies. Get rid of non-medical entities like Congress who don't have the slightest clue how to care for a patient or what works or doesn't work.
