That is a reasonable perspective
I agree the skinny plan was stupid and that we have yet to hear a plan of action from either side that gets much beyond trying to score partisan points when more serious reforms are needed.
That said, consider the following to your first point, "Can't make insurance affordable for the uninsurable without taking from someone else."
(1) While some people can't afford to pay for their own insurance, those people still incur health care costs, both directly -- repeated ER visits and hospitalizations -- and indirectly through lost productivity.
(2) Some of the health conditions that lead to ER visits and hospitalizations can be better and more cheaply managed with primary care that prevents or delays the progression of diseases.
(3) Providing insurance that help people better control their illness may save more money than it costs.
