Yes - I am partially wrong
in that there is a set of exemptions for certain specified jobs. This includes teacher, doctors and lawyers. I'm not sure if others. This is still completely separate from the "duties" test" that must be used to determine whether overtime applies for those over the baseline threshold but under the "highly compensated" definition. However, it means that none of this applies at all to a very specified set of employees -- such as lawyers per JMHoo's question.
