The rise in antisemitism accompanying these protests, the kneejerk reaction I got was…denial that there’s a rise in antisemitism. Which is stark, obvious, and very widely covered across the media. When people point out the blatant, genocidal hypocrisy in protests where people carrying placards just parroting charges of colonialism, genocide, apartheid, etc, are right next to Hama slogans on prominent display, the kneejerk from the left is “support for Palestinians is not antisemitism!” No, it’s not. But chanting “River to sea” is. So, if you’re marching happily alongside those folks, what are you? One of the good people on that side?

The left (or just those who are concerned about all pro-Palestinian messaging being seen as antisemitism) is more concerned about throwing cover to its flank than clearly calling out the antisemitism which accompanies it. The time to ensure they do nothing even remotely like the “good people on both sides” nonsense we all objected to so strenuously is now. It’s the exact wrong time to say “oh there’s no equivalence here”. That’s how we make sure there never is.
