Right. No matter how skeptical you are about Israel and this govt, they

Are struggling with the issue of limiting innocent death. Which doesn’t mean there aren’t Israelis who’d wipe out every last Palestinian if they had their way - just like Americans called for turning the entire Mideast into a nuclear wasteland after 9/11. Democracy itself is the check - for all our mistakes after 9/11, we didn’t commit genocide. We struggled with civilian deaths. Russia, China, Iran, and Hamas - organizations like that have no such troubles.

The questioning of Israel is because people hold Israel to the standards of a western democracy, and they don’t hold Hamas to that standard. Nor could they - Hamas couldn’t care less about a barbaric reputation. They take pride in it.

The good thing about this article was its moral clarity - it said in no uncertain terms that everything Hamas has done beginning on Oct 7 is a war crime. Targeting Israeli civilians and hiding behind Palestinian civilians. It’s written by a guy with high aspirations for Israel, who is trying to ensure it never slips into the sins perpetrated against Jews, throughout history, which led to the resolution creating Israel.

After all, that’s ultimately Hamas’ goal, and doing your enemy’s bidding is a bad idea. I want the left to be much more direct in calling out the blatant antisemitism in these pro-Hamas protests - too many are pro-Hamas, masquerading as pro-Palestinian, and that is a direct call for genocide, ironically. If we want a political solution, ever, support for Hamas (which is just ignorance on display with so many) needs to be called out as support for war crimes, including genocide.

Support for the position staked out in this piece is support for a peaceful solution.
