Published last week but I missed it.

Personally I don’t trust Bibi to place Israel’s or anyone’s interests above his own. He did a solid interview on Meet The Press this week - he’s great in interviews. He seemed very reasonable in accepting blame for the failures leading to Oct 7, but of course now’s not the time for those inquiries. That’s for after the war. He also says that Israel wants to retain security control in Gaza, not political control. Which means (1) turning Gaza into the West Bank, and (2) making this a war with no definite end. Which seems good for Bibi.

Hard to know if the judicial initiatives were Bibi’s own goal or appeasement of his rwnj govt. Either way, this Bibi governing coalition is as uninterested in a solution including sovereignty for Palestinians as Hamas is in doing that for Israel. The good news is the war cabinet pushed the rwnj govt aside in conducting the war. Which makes genocidal goals less likely to govern conduct of the war.

The bad news is…how to you really eradicate Hamas, which is imbedded deeply in the Palestinian population, without something like genocide? You probably don’t. How do you get to a political solution when Bibi is in charge on one side, and Hamas is the most prominent ruling group on the other? You probably don’t do that either.
