Do you really not believe this mindset exists simply because you feel as

though you have some southern friends and they feel differently (or at least say they feel differently)? We are all creatures of our own experiences, but part of what should make us better is knowing that we certainly dont experience everything out there. Plenty of people have never experienced any form of racism or antisemitism firsthand nor do they think they know anyone who thinks this way. This means it doesn't really exist?

Not only does such thinking exist and thrive in many corners today, but we enable it when public figures speak in ugly provocative ways or fail to call it out. It's why words really do matter.
