Just because something existed before doesn't mean it needs to now. There is a clear need for national government -- for defense, foreign policy, and many other reasons. The need is less clear at the state level -- much of what they do can be done with the benefits of greater scale nationally or at the local level. State governments are tweeners.

I thought you were for lower taxes and efficiency...I guess not! Or could it be that you like having a mechanism by which the minority (GOP) can control the majority?

As usual your argument about handing 90% of federal responsibilities to the states is total BS by the way. Many issues cannot be solved at the state level. Water and air move between states, for example, but you want 50 different pollution regimes? And safety nets evaporate in that scenario, since it would become a race to the bottom (any state trying to provide decent benefits would be swamped). But you knew that, and it was part of your plan to line your pockets at the expense of the needy. Very Christian.
