I view that as very strong evidence that the combinations of masks and "lockdowns" that shared no resemblance to Australia or China did make a difference. I don't see how you can explain the large disparity in state outcomes otherwise. To give you one example, Oregon and Washington share a border with Idaho. Oregon has 1465 deaths per million and Washington has 1436, while Idaho has 2499 even though Washington was the first state in the country to have COVID cases. Since then both states have had some of the lowest per capita case totals in the country and thus have had fewer deaths. That was the whole point of my cases correlating with deaths post that started this thread.

Anecdotally, I have a liberal friend who lives in eastern Washington, which is the red part of the state. He's been frustrated that more people don't wear masks there compared with Seattle. Then he took a day trip to Idaho a few weeks ago and was stunned that nobody wore a mask. I told him that's what I had been experiencing in Alabama for almost two years. That says to me that the rules put in place at the state level did have an impact even in areas where Gov. Jay Inslee is pretty darn unpopular. (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us)
