I think you're assuming this country is smarter than it is

I sincerely hope you are right and I am wrong. I have never been more wrong in terms of what I assumed would be a complete Trump-afterthought by this point. I hope things can still be derailed but it doesn't seem that likely. I remain fairly convinced that a decent chunk of his support is coming from people who are no more R than D under any definition, and who knows how this will really play in a general election. I heard a snippet from a recent rally where he was screaming "I'll call the Carrier CEO and say enjoy moving workers to Mexico while I put a big duty on everything you ever try and bring in from there". The crowd went wild. This sentiment plays with a lot of folks all over the spectrum, so the notion that it is mostly about racism, insults, misogyny -- just think this is missing a larger movement. Just a matter of how big a movement when it comes to voter turnout.
