I think we should do more to get violent offenders off the street. Like the one in the original post. I don’t happen to think cash bail accomplishes that goal. I’d rather see us deny bail altogether for dangerous, violent and in particular repeat offenders. Put resources around speedier trials but hold them in jail. Bail makes sense to me for flight risks or for people who can’t be trusted to show up for their court date. Using bail to keep the public safe from dangerous criminals would seem to imply that rich, violent criminals pose no danger and only poor criminals unable to post bail are dangerous
