Not that most asking that question are actually looking for an answer or honest discussion.

Yes, I do believe it makes us safer because A) it forces someone to consider having to post bail in order to get out before their next crime. Not something this guy had to worry about when committing his 8th crime that broke this woman's jaw. B) it forces the criminal to risk something should they desire to flee the city and commit crimes elsewhere before a certain conviction, and/or just go on a crime spree because they know their time free comes to an end. (see below for just one example)

Second, the canard to defend this stupidity is that it affects poor criminals unfairly. This requires completely ignoring the reality that financial means is considered when setting bail. Doesn't mean poor people won't ever be unable to post bail, but it means they certainly won't need to come up with as much as you or I would in order to get out for the same crime. And you or I wouldn't get the same bail as Sam Bankman-Fried, Trump, those that could more easily afford to be flight risks. Otherwise, they pretend poor people are getting locked up and can't make bail for simple turnstile jumping or backpack shoplifting. Even ignoring the complete BS that those crimes even have bail set on their own, nothing precludes legislatures from making certain crimes like that ROR only.

Finally, if anything, unless it's applied in absurd ways like this guy or the one below, it will actually make things worse for those we're pretending to "help", because like the single sanction honor code it only gives the judge a death penalty or walk free option. Take this guy. Even if you forget the priors, would you still lock him up for one punch with no ability to get out until his trial months down the road? Or would you consider letting him out once he's got enough skin in the game to reconsider fleeing, going on crime spree, etc. and putting him on house arrest, taking away his passport, etc.? Do you want to be the judge that might be letting him out to break his next jaw on an innocent victim? Unless it's another soft-on-crime judge that doesn't care about what they might do to future victims, I would argue they would err on the side of caution and keep them locked up even more under a No Cash Bail setup.
