You won't get an answer. And the MAGA folks on this thread are just
parroting the anti-city garbage they see on Fox News and in the tabloids.
To answer the question, not sure I'd want that guy back on the streets right away. Good chance he's mentally ill, poses a threat to himself and those around him. Also sounds like he has priors, likely to strike again.
And on the whole, I'm guessing NYC is no less safe than any of these smaller cities in towns in more rural areas in the South and Midwest. Many of them have struggled mightily with opioid issues and have real crime problems of their own. But people don't seem to think that dwelling on that will sell more papers or pull more viewing hours. Clearly cities have rough areas, it has been that way for thousands of years. Isn't a new (or uniquely American) issue. But damn they generate a lot of economic activity and create opportunities. [Post edited by Capital City Hoo at 03/29/2024 3:32PM]
