No, it's really not a rhetorical question
Do you believe that asking someone to post bail for their release makes them less likely to commit a crime than if they are released on their own recognizance? That's the gist of the question we've asked in this discussion several times over multiple years and never heard an answer on.
The corollary is: Does making someone post bail for their freedom make the world safer? Or is it really about coming up with a way to keep them in jail pre-trial that doesn't run afoul of the Constituion? [Post edited by CMUHoo at 03/29/2024 3:06PM]
