No one was "forced to stay home." My wording was intended to reflect how

a lot of people apparently felt (even though it wasn't true).

To be fair, there was definite overreaction early on with some places closing beaches and tennis courts and the like, making people feel like they couldn't go anywhere but the grocery store. But the main driver of people complaining about being in "lockdown" was political media playing on anger and emotions to rile people up.

But I do think that shutting down restaurants and other businesses everywhere at the same time - including a lot of places where it wasn't needed but we couldn't have known that without available testing - played a role in people's rebellion against reasonable guidance as the pandemic wore on.
