No, it is not where we are now. Not because extremists declare it so.
Essentially, it’s a declaration of war. Legislatively speaking - my way or the highway. The attitude that would have prevented the USA from coming to be if it were so prevalent back then. There’s nothing magical about trump - he threatens retribution to anyone not bowing to his demands, which right now are “don’t give Biden a victory”. It’s strongarm tactics, not magic.
That’s the reason compromise is out of bounds to Trumpistan. They fear the victory it might hand Biden if it plays out. So they’d rather leave in place the structures that have led to chaos they claim to oppose, but actually want to perpetuate. At least until their sovereign ascends to the throne again.
Compromise is very possible. It’s in fact likely. If Trump weren’t threatening retribution, there are almost certainly 10 repub senators who’d vote for it. And many more than 10 in the house. The only reason compromise appears nearly dead is because trump issued an edict outlawing it, and promising retribution to heretics.
Trumpism is the only reason compromise isn’t possible. Which is just the largest of the shits it smears all over the constitution. Compromise is very possible, because more than enough dems and repubs want it. It’s just highly objectionable to autocrats like you and your fantasy sovereign.
