Yeah, of course, I base it on the unique dynamic which exists because of
The urgency behind Ukraine funding for some, and the urgency on the border (until Trump started his campaign to kill it) among the political set which opposes that. Fans of the USA, who understand that compromise has led to every accomplishment in the nation’s history, understand the legislative opportunity that creates. An opportunity is not a predetermination of success. It’s just an opportunity. So in the English context of that word, I have no burden of proof of anything.
You otoh couldn’t keep your hyperpartisan screeds about Biden created invasions and seals of approval out of this - if Trump would get out of the way and simply shut his trap, then we’d see if it passes the senate, which would require at least 10 repubs, not Biden apologists. If that happened, and Johnson allowed the entire house to vote on it, it would pass with significant repub, not Biden apologist, support. If the elected reps of all those repub districts voted it down, it wouldn’t pass.
So, no, you’ve just demonstrated more of your irrationality. Legislative opportunity does not mean legislative success in English. I drew no conclusions that it’s a success, sight unseen. Apparently, Trump and you are afraid it’ll be a success, because you’re pulling out all the stops to torpedo the process. Declare it a failure in advance, sight unseen. Prevent the democratic process from happening and trying to further public disdain for congress, because institutions like congress are an impediment to Trumpie autocratic goals.
Let the process play out. Let the senate vote on something. Then let the whole house vote. If it fails then, fine. I’ll likely disagree but at least our legislature will have functioned without bowing to an aspiring dictator-for-a-day. [Post edited by hoolstoptheheels at 01/28/2024 1:31PM]
