Palestinians in one of the most densely populated and impoverished regions on earth, where they are hemmed in like an open air prison, don’t trust Israel. That doesn’t make them ardent Hamas fans. Hamas is essentially a brutal, oppressive theocracy.
I think the vast majority of Palestinians have no say, and feel totally powerless to change their regime. Close to half weren’t alive when Hamas came to power. What can they be guilty of? Who knows what a 13 yr old might one day favor given the chance?
Hard to see Israel’s current response doing anything but harden those attitudes. If bibi succeeds in making it exactly like the WB, those attitudes will only harden.
What polling in Gaza now can be seen as truly representative of Palestinian aspirations? None, I’d argue.
