I have to push back a little on your initial framing
There hasn't been an election in Gaza since 2006 so you can't really say with any accuracy what that population is on the record for or against. My gut tells me the majority of Palestinians and Israelis at their core just want to go about their lives in relative peace and stability.
A two-state solution remains the only viable, long term peaceful resolution. The other options are:
- endless conflict with occasional explosions into all-out war
- the total eradication of Israel
- the total elimination of the Palestinian population
None of these are acceptable. A viable two-state solution has no chance unless and until:
- Hamass is eliminated as a terrorist organization and as the political leadership of Gaza with no chance of a return to power
- Netanyahu is removed from power and fully prosecuted for the charges against him and his Zionist supporters are no longer in a position to play Gaza off against the West Bank so as to enable further illegal and immoral land grabs of Palestinian territory.
The US got close a couple of times to brokering a settlement along these lines - under Carter and Clinton. Both times the parties walked away from the deal due to a combination of mistrust and individual Jewish and Palestinian leaders' desire to hang on to power.
The answer is quite simple. Implementing a solution has sadly proven much more difficult.
