It stands for Armalite, and I agree with many of your points but I still

don’t see any reason an average Joe should be able to get his hands on a semi auto rifle designed for military use. The pic you sent looks just like an M1. I would be fine banning or severely limiting all semi auto rifles as every other country on earth with a grain of sense has done. No more reason your average idiot should be able to buy an AR-15, AK-47, etc than a canister of nerve gas or a rocket launcher IMHO.

Yes, there are more effective ways overall to reduce gun violence and most are done with handguns but it’s not a zero sum game. I support numerous measures and, believe it or not, I’m not entirely anti-gun. I enjoy shooting and have even taught my son how to skeet shoot. Still think our psycho gun culture has got to go though.
