I'd also note that crazy people are the exact type I'd expect to modify ANY

semi-auto rifle (or frankly any weapon) outside the bounds of the law and make their weapon more lethal. Bottom line is that if you have the know-how (or an internet connection and tools) you can MAKE a fully automatic weapon either from scratch or from the bones of a legal weapon.
