It's a bit cynical but may be reality. I wish the Dems could do a better

job connecting with working class voters who aren't minorities, but it's hard to when so many live in a right wing echo chamber. There are Repubs who wish they could connect better with educated professionals and minorities but they can't when so many live in a left wing echo chamber (or rightfully view them, IMHO, as the party on the wrong side of history).

Is it possible? I hope so. Is it likely? Maybe not.

As to the Dems self-reflecting and all, we recently spent the last 8 years hearing how the Republicans would never win another national election until they found a way to connect with minorities. Turns out that was bullshit -- they won this one by playing up nationalism and racism to turn out the white working class vote (and really fought hard to alienate everyone else) and squeaked by because it was a change year and the Dems ran a historically bad candidate with more baggage than a cruise liner. That probably won't happen again in four years, but let's not deny the media their chance to crow about how Dems will never win another election until they win over white working class voters.

My guess? The Dems weren't wrong (demographics certainly ARE shifting in their favor and that trend will continue) but they were counting on Clinton being able to get the folks who twice elected Obama back to the polls in these states like MI, WI, and PA. It didn't happen, and they lost. Trump played enough voters for suckers to get them to pull the lever for him by lobbing out platitudes about free trade and playing up to nationalism, division, and sense of loss in the ugliest way seen since George Wallace ran. Enough folks either bought it or just hated Hillary enough to vote for him for him to win.

But I have to laugh a bit at these conservatives desperately trying to turn this into some white man's revolution. It is no such thing -- it is one election and Trump may even have lost to Bernie Sanders (certainly to Obama or Biden). But folks can carry on with their latest line of bullshit until the next election proves it wrong.
