Comes down to the left being most interested in standing on their pedestal talking down to the "deplorables". If they were unaware of the swelling of support rising up in crucial rust belt states like Mich and Wisc, which had not voted for a repub since the last time NY voted repub in 1984, I think in many cases it was because of their lack of interest. Just feels better to belittle, and takes so much less effort than trying to understand.

From the looks of things so far, I am not sure the left has come to terms with that, although many are trying. Too many IMO are acting like they have been somehow wronged by this election result. And it's those people who really need to get over themselves, first and foremost.

I have several family members who fit that description. There was an article in the NYT today about how families are literally calling off the holidays because they can no longer imagine sharing a meal. I'm expecting an interesting T-giving, and haven't yet decided if I will try to mitigate of exacerbate the tension. Although the latter may get me thrown out.

I'm basically optimistic that things will settle down, but we are in a very weird place nationally and really worldwide, and some of the potential outcomes are scary, and historical analogies are a little ominous.
