I brought up banks because that's really what the term "redlining" refers to. It was a big deal in the leadup to the mortgage crisis. First there were redlining practices that made it harder for minorities to get mortgages because no one would lend in certain areas, then after legal reforms in the Civil Rights era there were reverse redlining practices that targeted people in those areas with shitty loans. Both still happen despite being heavily regulated, believe it or not.
It really doesn't have anything to do with dorm room assignments, unless you're a credit card provider that says it won't issue cards to people who live in Gooch Dillard or something to that effect.
