I think we would all love Defined Benefit Plans but

that ship has sailed for much of the private sector. So enhance the Defined Contribution savings plans. Allow folks to put more away pre tax- hell I might even be ok with mandating it so we don't have to pick up the pieces for those who were shortsighted ( I better be careful as I may start to sound like Obama on healthcare :) but at least in this case it is and always be their money). I would also be in favor of larger health savings accounts. You put your money away pre-tax, you can use it in the case of a medical emergency or if you are fortunate to see your golden years, you can draw on it in retirement.. But they still need a job that generates a good wage. I have been ambivalent on the minimum wage. But I don't think $30k a year to flip burgers is the solution. Perhaps it may make more sense to lower the corporate tax rate to even zero for manufacturers in the US.
