I think they think he could strike deals on tax reform,
entitlement reform, etc... since he has no strong political ties, he could actually get both sides to come to the table and negotiate a deal. They all still think it's unlikely, but that he has a better chance at doing so than an a long time republican or democratic candidate
For the doctors I know who are voting for trump (both husband and wife are doctors), it's about individual taxes. They're tired of paying $300K+ per year in income taxes and being told they're not paying their "fair share". They expect their taxes to go up even more under Clinton. I've not spoken politics to them since Trump started walking back his tax proposal, but that was a major driver of their support for Trump.
