Let's call this the "McSorley's Rule" - way back when, this famous Greenwich Village bar had but one bathroom. Very common to see a line up of dudes at one of those feeding-trough style urinals, and women squeezing past to get to the stalls directly behind the dudes' backs. They had abandoned the one bathroom concept circa 1990, I'd say. Maybe even a few years before. Or maybe I'm making it up and there was just an extended period with one bathroom out of order, but the one bathroom was an actual draw to late teen/early 20s dudes like me back then.

I continue to have my perhaps old fashioned doubts about this concept of changing physical genders, but even just putting that aside, I found our Attorney General to be something close to nauseating yesterday, and so transparently politically ambitious when she compares this to Jim Crow and racial segregation. This is just not the same thing - we are talking about a tiny, tiny subsection of our population, rather legitimately making a much, much larger majority of our population squirm uncomfortably over just exactly what the distinction even is between gender bathrooms. And locker rooms, and just about any public place where people might get naked. Seems to me, as best as I can tell, in places trying to do what Charlotte did, I can now use whatever bathroom I happen to feel like using. I don't see how anyone can really call me out if I say "today, I'm a woman!" Maybe simply because I saw a hottie walk into a women's locker room! There does need to be some clarity here, or the whole country might as well just go to the old McSorley's Rule.

Loretta Lynch is not advancing anybody's rights here, or even the cause of tolerance. She is using over the top analogies to the great work of people like MLK to advance her own career. That's what this is about. Faux outrage. I hope she gets her clock cleaned by the courts. Let a state's elected govt deal with this - it is far more complicated than just "I want to discriminate against transgender people".

And then that state's govt can deal with the consequences. You know, like NC has. Concerts cancelled, other events cancelled, certain companies choosing not to do business there, etc. Whatever you or I think of this issue specifically, these kinds of protests are exactly the way pressure should be exerted by those who think NC is discriminating. This is NOT the desegregation/Civil Rights movement of the 1950s, 60s and beyond, and I really wish some heroes from that era would step forward and put Lynch in her place.
