Sorry, I'm just not seeing much defense for the HB2 approach. It's not a right to privacy issue because you're forcing Caitlyn Jenner to be in the bathroom with little boys and a penis-less man to be in the bathroom with little girls - exactly what the HB2 supporters cite as a problem. It doesn't mandate any additional cost on private business, only who they can bar from using a rest room, much like they wanted to do with blacks. You can offer single unisex bathrooms, but you can't force someone to use them anymore than if they were handicap or "colored".

The big problem for both sides as I see it, is neither wants to focus solely on the shower/locker room aspect where people have to/choose to disrobe and have more right to privacy than in a public bathroom with stalls. McCrory, etc. were too stupid or too attention seeking to just make that the focal point so they received the expected outrage. And the LGBT activists are too stupid or too agenda driven to stop at just bathrooms, and want to force this to the shower/locker room level too. If it was just limited to using the genitalia approach for public (as opposed to single changing stalls) showers/locker rooms, I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority would tell any complainers to just stfu.
