Concerns. Probably a bit too simplistic to say his only consideration was to be “not Trump”. But I stand by the notion of Biden’s responsibility for three years of largely back-burnering the issue, and then taking urgency up from 0 to 150 mph overnight.

In another interview I’m not bothering to search out, one of the TX border dems made the point that remain in Mexico could have been coordinated with the UN to provide humanitarian and security monitoring at border camps. I don’t think it was the all (Trump admin use of cruelty as a disincentive to would-be migrants) or nothing (Biden increase in catch and release) - I think there were middle ground solutions not considered for the three years before sudden urgency was developed - because dem cities started barking and an election was coming up.

You want to argue increased parole was their only choice in 1/21? Ok, I doubt either of us knows the true full menu of available options. But there’s no arguing that the admin could have prioritized this long before they did, and influenced a compromise effort well in advance of a pres election year. In which Trump would have had less leverage to torpedo it. That failure was joint venture.
