I don’t think that’s remotely fair. It’s not like new waves of immigration were hard to see as the pandemic started winding down. It’s not like the admin itself didn’t decide when to end the national emergency, which helped determine when remain in Mexico would expire. It’s not like the Biden admin didn’t proactively decide that “catch and release” was the way to go, massively increasing parole at a time when the pandemic was waning and arrivals were spiking.

The admin’s only focus for 3 yrs, essentially, was to be “not Trump” and to poo-poo the rwnj fear mongering over the issue. But by ignoring the actual issues that were really building, they did a sudden about face, just a few months ago, when northern cities started feeling the pain. Which contributed to the failure of the compromise.

That doesn’t in any way excuse republican intransigence to keep the campaign issue, but the Biden admin played its own role. It’s no more one sided as you described in this post, than LA’s nonsense about dems importing voters. The Biden admin is at a political disadvantage here because of their own missteps.
