There are no “oppressor groups” and “oppressed groups”. Most people suffering oppression through history suffer it at the hands of people….just like them. Germans were among the victims of Nazis. Russians among the victims of Stalin. Chileans were the victims of Pinochet. Oppression has been a frequent human condition. It is not the sum total of human history, and there are no such things as members of some group who are oppressors because similar people were oppressors in the past, any more than all black people today are victims because American slaves were black.

That is what wokeness, or post-modernism, or whatever you want to call it, is, as it permeates and percolates in academia. That’s why Jews or Palestinians today feel they are being targeted because of world events in which they had no part. That’s why these U professors, who will punish a pronoun abuser, could equivocate on calls for genocide. And say with a straight face that it’s all about commitment to free speech. Which they only commit to based on the status of the group being targeted (is it oppressor, or victim)?

I once before recommended this book. It’s by a traditional lefty who sees this identity group focus clearly in academia, and how it is a road to more deeply ingraining white supremacy, among other kinds of in-group/out-group conflict, even if the road is paved with good intentions. It’s inevitable, just based on the psychological dynamics of groups. Particularly when reinforced at early ages.
